The perfect temperature for champagne and sparkling wine

The best champagne and sparkling wine taste best when served between 43 and 48 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s slightly higher than the temperature in your refrigerator, which is 36 to 37 degrees (or a bucket of water, for that matter, at 32 degrees). Let’s say you can store a bottle of champagne in your fridge overnight. In this case, we recommend setting it on your table for 15-20 minutes before pouring to let the temperature cool down a bit.

When you start with a room temperature bottle, you can put it in the refrigerator for three hours. And once the right temperature is reached, be sure to hold the glass by the stem to prevent the heat from your hands from warming up the wine!

Warmer or cooler

Also remember that not all bubbles are created equal and sparkling wine is different. Depending on the type of Champagne, it can be recommended to be cooler or warmer than the limit mentioned above. Richer, more opulent, full-bodied styles like many vintage champagnes, blanc de noirs (made from red grapes) or even rosé champagnes will taste better in parts at around 50-55 degrees. And because sparkling wines are heated and heated, they can increase their taste and aroma, if you find yourself with a low-quality bottle that you know does not taste good , then, by all means, keep it on ice! A deep cold will make it more delicious.

The best way to quickly chill champagne

If you want to quickly chill your champagne on the fly, the most efficient and quickest method is to put the bottle in an ice bath. A mixture of equal parts ice and water will keep the temperature in the bathroom at zero (ice alone won’t do it) and your sparkling wine will be chilled in about 15 minutes.

If you want to cool your ice bath, adding a generous pinch of kosher salt will lower the temperature even faster (because salt lowers the boiling point of the water).

For an even chilling, make sure the bottle is completely covered. If you don’t have a big enough ice bucket, your kitchen sink or even a large pot will do the trick.

Note: The time we provide for champagne chilling is approx. Much depends on the starting temperature of the wine. Some people may have sparkling wine stored in a safe place in their home but not refrigerated to the right temperature. Others may have a bottle sitting on top of their refrigerator – which is not a good place or a good place to store wine that takes a long time to cool. If you don’t know the temperature of the wine, check it using a kitchen thermometer.

Other methods that work

An ice bath is the most effective way to quickly make champagne or other sparkling wine, but we’ve included a few other methods if you don’t have enough ice or the right ice bath bag .

Wet tea towel freezer method

If an ice bath is not possible, wrap the bottle in a cloth before placing it in the freezer for about 30 minutes. The wet clothes will help to cool it faster than putting the bottle in the freezer, which takes about 45 minutes.

Place the glass in the freezer

If you want to quickly cool a piece of toast and not a whole bottle, pour champagne into glasses and put them in the freezer for about ten minutes; small liquid and thin glass walls (unlike glass bottles) will also freeze quickly.

Use chilling spheres or wands

Finally, chilling spheres or cooling wands are devices that, once stored in your freezer, can be placed in a glass to quickly cool water. They are best used instead of adding ice cubes to a glass of champagne, as they will not melt or water down the wine. Add them to the Champagne glass and wait a few minutes for them to warm the wine before drinking.
