How to store whole kiwi

There are different ways to store whole kiwis, and the method you choose depends on the maturity of the fruit you bought at the store or delivered to your door. If you have an unripe kiwi, store it on your counter for a few days until it ripens. Just store the fruit at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, which can speed up the ripening process and prevent it from spoiling, and store it with fruits that produce ethylene gas, such as apples , avocado and tomato. Ethylene in these foods can also cause kiwifruit to rot quickly and contribute to early spoilage.

Depending on its ripeness, kiwi can be kept on the counter for about five to seven days. To prevent the fruit from ripening enough to enjoy, check it every day to see if it is ready to eat. If you have enough kiwi, but you are not ready to eat it, store it in the refrigerator. This will slow down the aging process and buy you a few more days to enjoy this delicious treat. And again, it is important to know the foods that produce ethylene. If the best place to store produce is in a crisper, make sure that kiwis are not in apples, mangoes, tomatoes, etc. Storing this way, kiwi will stay fresh for about five to ten days.

How to store kiwi slices

If you’ve made kiwi for a smoothie or on top of a yogurt parfait and still have a few slices left, there’s no point in throwing them away. Instead, you can take these leftover slices and place them in an airtight container or plastic bag in the refrigerator. Although kiwi slices don’t last long as a whole, the fruit is incredible, when stored properly, the slices should stay fresh for about two days.

Can you freeze kiwi?

Yes, you can freeze kiwi completely! In fact, freezing is the best way to preserve fruit for a long time.

Here is the best way to do it:

  •  Peel and cut the kiwi into slices of about the same size.
  •  Place the kiwi on a sheet lined with parchment baking sheet.
  • Freeze the kiwi for 2-3 hours, or until frozen, then transfer to an airtight container.
  • Return the bag full of kiwi to the freezer, where it will be best for about three months.

Just note that the texture of kiwi changes a little once cold, so these slices are used in smoothies (just throw them directly in the blender!) rather than in parfait or fruit salad.
