How to properly store mangoes

As anyone who loves mangoes will tell you, the tropical fruits are healthy (and delicious) when they are ripe. While an unripe mango often lacks the juiciness and burst of sweet, fruity flavors that mangoes are known for, overripe mangoes actually begin to ferment and tend to have a sour taste and smell.
So how do you know when a mango is ripe?
Ripe mangoes will have a yellow or orange/red skin, unlike green ones, and will have a sweet aroma. A ripe mango also yield slightly when you gently press it with your fingers, just like a ripe peach.

How to store mangoes
As you may have guessed, how to store a mango depends on whether it is ripe or not. It is best to store young mangoes at room temperature and not in the refrigerator. At room temperature, the fruit will continue to grow, taste and taste in a few days. To speed up the ripening process, place the mangoes in a paper bag at room temperature. Can you freeze mangoes?
Yes, you can freeze mangoes. In fact, they are one of the fruits that freeze well. To properly freeze a mango, wait until it is ripe then follow the steps below:
- Peel the ripe mango and cut it into slices or cubes.
- Arrange the mango pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure none of the pieces touch each other.
- Put the baking sheet in the freezer for at least two hours, or even overnight.

Once frozen using this method, mangoes will stay fresh for up to six months. To thaw frozen mangoes, refrigerate overnight or place a bag of frozen mangoes in a bowl of cold water. Fruit should be completely dissolved in about three hours.
Frozen and thawed mangoes are usually sweeter than fresh mangoes, but still taste like fresh fruit, which means they are great for use in smoothies, frozen drinks, or baked goods.
