How to Prepare Pepper Stew (Obe Ata Din Din)
Pepper Stew, a stew that the Yoruba people call Obe Ata Din Din is a Nigerian soup made with only pepper. It’s red like tomato stew but hot! So, be careful about the pepper when you eat this stew.
I am here to show you how to make this soup without burning your mouth.
Serve with:
- Boiled white rice
- Boiled plantains (unripe or ripe)
- Fried plantains
- Boiled beans
- Fried yam
- WhiteAgidi
Ingridients for obe ata din din
- 12 tatashe pepper
- 3 tablespoons sunflower oil (vegetable oil)
- 1 tablespoon of red palm oil
- 3 medium onions
- Habanero pepper (to taste)
- 600g of shaki cow tripe)
- 3 pieces of dried fish (mangala)
- 1 disc of ogiri okpei (iru, dawa dawa, locust beans)
- 1 handful of crayfish
- 1 tablespoon Nigerian curry powder
- Salt (to taste)
-
Before cooking pepper stew (Obe Ata Din Din)
-
Soak and debone the dry fish.
- Clean and cut the shaki into medium pieces
-
Grind the ogiri okpei and crayfish with a dry mill
- Slice one onion and slice the others.
- Rinse and remove the seeds from the tatashe. It is wise to plant the tatashe pepper as the seeds make your stew bitter. Also, your blender is not able to grind the seeds, which is not good when you are serving your stew. I also love the habanero pepper.
Cooking Direction:
- Boil the shaki and diced onion until done.
