How to store whole onions

How to store cut  or chopped onion

 You can store extra sliced ​​or diced onions in an airtight container or plastic bag in your refrigerator, but be sure to use them within five to seven days. The longer the onion sits there, the stronger it gets, but you don’t want your fridge to smell like onions, putting anything else in it. Another option is to follow the tips below and freeze your remaining onions, which will make their aroma last longer.

Can you freeze onions? 

We don’t recommend washing a whole onion because it will be too tough and won’t melt properly, but we do recommend freezing the chopped onions. In fact, whenever a recipe calls for half an onion, chop everything. Put anything you don’t use into an airtight plastic bag, making sure to get as much air out as possible, seal it and put it in the freezer. 

On the other hand, if you buy a big bag of onions and know you won’t use them all before they go bad, feel free to chop bunch just for your freezer! You’ll thank yourself the next time you make a soup or stew and have plenty of chopped onions before you’re ready to go.

 We recommend that you label and give date to your bag of onions for future reference, but they will be good for more than six months, so you should be able to use them before they go bad.
