6 FOODS YOU SHOULD NOT PUT IN A BLENDER
6 Foods You should not put in a blender
Have you ever owned a blender that is only a few years old? I’m not talking about one of the expensive, powerful types; I’m talking about a standard blender built to last in smoothies, sauces and more. If you have to replace the blender more often than you need, it may be because some food is damaging the blades and the machine.
Many people think that you can put anything in a blender, but there are other appliances that are suitable for certain foods, such as food processors, nasal sprayers, and coffee grinders.
To ensure that your blender stands the test of time, avoid using it with these six things.
Hot drinks or food
Have you ever seen a soup recipe that tells you to pour everything into a blender to make it smooth? Think again! Adding hot ingredients to the blender can not only burn your hands, but also damage your equipment. An immersion blender is a great tool to own to avoid a blender altogether, but if you don’t have one, place your hot ingredients in a bowl until they cool. So mix it up!

Coffee beans
Here’s the thing: You can technically use a blender as a coffee maker, but it’s not a smart choice. This is because over time, blending weak coffee beans will wear down the blender blades. But most importantly, you won’t get the beans right because of the nature of the blender.
Ice
As with coffee, you should not put ice in your blender because this can damage the appliance, damage the blade and the ice will not be properly processed. But what about adding ice to smoothies and slushies? This is different since other things will help to break the ice. Just make sure you don’t overload the blender!
Dried fruits
When it comes to adding fruit to the blender, fresh or frozen fruit is the way to go. Adding dried fruit to a sauce or marinade may seem like a good idea, but not when the sauce is made in a blender. The hard, leathery texture of the dried fruit combined with the bright interior is a recipe for disaster.
Potatoes
This may seem shocking, but putting potatoes in a blender is a big no-no. A few minutes after boiling the potatoes, the starch and liquid will form a gummy texture. If you want to make silky mashed potatoes, always use a potato masher or masher; blender is not the solution.

Almonds (and other nuts)
Yes, we know how to make almond milk, but did you know that whole grains can do more damage to your blender than it can repair? The key when making plant-based milk from scratch is to soak the seeds in water to soften them before blending. If you want healthy nuts like almonds or cashews for salads or desserts, it’s best to chop them with a knife.
